Solar Rebates in Tasmania

Want to know how to maximise your Tasmania solar rebate and reduce energy costs? Our team has already helped hundreds of Tasmanians do exactly that.

Solar installations are now more affordable for many Tasmanian homes and businesses. Thanks to federal government incentives, eligible customers can reduce their upfront installation costs. As a result, you could save thousands on your solar system and lower your ongoing electricity bills.

Small-Scale

Small-Scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES)

The Small-Scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES), often called the Federal Government Solar Rebate, helps reduce solar installation costs. The scheme provides incentives based on the renewable electricity your system is expected to generate until 31 December 2030.

When you install an eligible solar system, you receive Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs). The number of certificates depends on three factors:

System size (kW) × Zone multiplier × Years remaining in the scheme

For example, a 7.92 kW solar system installed in Tasmania (Zone 4) in 2026 would generate approximately 46 STCs (source: SolarQuotes).

You can sell these certificates through an aggregator or the STC Clearing House. The Clearing House offers a fixed price of $40 per STC, although you may need to wait for a buyer. Alternatively, aggregators offer a faster sale, with prices that fluctuate.

At an STC price of $37, a 7.92 kW system generating 46 certificates would provide an upfront discount of approximately $1,702.

Feed-in Tariff

Your home uses the electricity generated by your solar system first. Any excess energy then flows back into the grid. In return, you receive a feed-in tariff of 9.276 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh).

However, the greatest savings come from using your solar electricity directly. This reduces the amount of electricity you buy from the grid at 27.9538 cents per kWh.

As a result, each kWh you use yourself saves approximately three times what you would earn by exporting it.

Rates as at July 2026. Based on Aurora Energy’s flat rate, excluding the daily supply charge of $1.676815.
